Did not last after 1 trip.
I bought this Sherpa Element Carrier for my 7 pound pet Chihuahua dog, to travel to Florida from New York, in 2022. I bought it because this was the only Pet Carrier I could find in white, and because it had water-proof stain technology, and it was the correct size to be used on either Frontier Airlines or Jet Blue Airlines. These were the only 2 airlines that had direct flights for my intended Florida destination. I received the Pet Carrier and it did look very smart and stylish to look at, and it seemed a perfect accessory to have for my trip with my little one, standing out from the normal dark drab suitcases and carriers in the airport. This is where the impractical part of this purchase went downhill fast. The so-called “stain technology” = plastic leather, stiff and very unforgiving to the touch, this over time causes the zippers to get stuck and very hard to use. I had alot of trouble with the zippers on that first trip, but thought after use they would loosen up and get easier. On my 2nd trip to Florida, I again had major problems with all the zippers..including the one on the side pocket of the carrier bag, where I was stowing my pet’s Health Certificate, so I had it close by him, to pull out quickly, if needed. While staying in Florida, I was unzipping one of the zippers and the threads that attach the zipper to the Carrier started to come undone, in various locations..causing an opening/gap to form in the front entrance door of the carrier, as well as the top opening. Needless to say, I was then limited to using more or less the back opening of the carrier. Side openings only work, while on a flat open area, but not in cramped close quarters, where the top opening is more convenient. Keeping that in mind, on my return trip home, at the security check point, I had taken my pup out the side opening, and the security guard snagged the zipper, on the top opening and I couldn’t get the upper opening to close at all, nor open any wider, so I had to place my pet back inside.. so I could grab the rest of my stuff, in hand, to figure out how to secure the top opening for my flight. I had to force my dog into the tinier hole on top, injuring his back. (I didn’t know until I got him home after my flight). I had to literally pull the zipper with all my might to get it unstuck, and even then there was still a 1 inch gap opening in the top, where the zipper stopped before closure. I had nothing but trouble with the zippers on this carrier,, I would NOT recommend this style of stiff waterproof material in a carrier..there is no give, when trying to use the zippers, and it only gets worse over time.

    “stain resistant” bag arrived stained
I purchased two carriers recently due to this item’s promised aesthetics, functionality, but most importantly due to the advertised “stain resistant” and “wipe cleanable” feature. I absolutely hate worrying about setting bags on something weird, sticky, etc while traveling. Since I was ordering from Sherpa (the first company to manufacture these types of carrier bags) I felt confident the expense was for something quality, and backed by Amazon’s “Earth’s Most Customer-Centric Company”. Even though my trip was this coming weekend, these facts made me feel excited and confident about getting two quality bags right on time.. I mean, isn’t that a huge benefit of ordering Amazon Prime?Fail, both bags arrived stained with this weird black stuff that seems to have been sealed under the stain resistant finish. For an expensive, brand new, stain resistant white bag that is just not acceptable. Quality control shouldn’t be that hard for a white bag? But I wasn’t worried because Amazon has always taken care of me in these types of situations with minimal hassle on my part.Wrong, “Earth’s Most Customer-Centric Company” was not there to help at all. I was told I could get a tiny discount, then told that I couldn’t get a any discount but I could return and get a replacement. However, with my trip being now tomorrow that wasn’t going to work. So then I was told that I could use the bags and then return them. Apart from the hassle that would work fine. But I had to ask what happens to these damaged and now used returned bags? Do they get thrown away? Can I just be refunded for these bags (and idk maybe use my own time to embroider or something over the stains) in order to save the hassle on my part and also the thought of the recourses of returning damaged carriers with now cat hair all over them to then just be thrown away? And then new bags sent to me? and will they have stains too? At this point I feel like this is costing me time, amazon customer service recourses and shipping, Sherpa the expense of dealing with the damaged bags and then sending “free” new ones. Long story short my friends, the hassle free Amazon that always had your back is gone. Things don’t come on time, customer service just closes you out of the chat when you aren’t happy with their response, there is apparently no email for amazon, nobody in amazon has an email I guess. After years of enjoying Amazon’s convenience do we have to go shopping in person again to avoid hassle and disappointment?

Very very expensive but I’m hoping that it will be worth it if ever needed. Want to get another one but can’t justify the cost.So far so good, no issues with it. Quite sturdy and robust.

I bought this carrier to travel with my cat. I’ve had it for six months and it’s still in perfect shape. Even after my cat has thrown tantrums and tried really hard to get out. We’ve travelled on planes, buses, cars, shuttle vans to Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Colombia and it’s holds up its shape wonderfully! Love it!PROS:The bottom “bed” can be removed to be washed it.The wheels slide well and make it easy to roll it everywhere. The top pocket is handy for toys, snacks and the cat’s travel documents. The shoulder strap/pull handle is adjustable and works great for pulling the carrier. The sides can be rolled up and attached with velcro so that cat can see outside.Has zippers everywhere so it’s easy to let the cat in or out.CONSNone

Bought this carrier as planning on flying with my Jack Russell next month. It seems pretty sturdy and has a warm, comfy flooring which I really like. It also feels sturdy when I am walking with the strap on my shoulder which was something I was worried about.
